USDA Safety and Quality Investment in Livestock Project

Expanding trade of agricultural products in the dairy and beef sectors by improving food safety and quality, product innovation, and marketing.

October 2018 – June 2026

The USDA Food for Progress Safety and Quality Investment in Livestock (SQIL) project, implemented by Venture37, improves competitiveness, food safety, and food quality along Georgia’s dairy and beef market systems.

The SQIL project increases agricultural productivity in the Georgian dairy and beef sectors by disseminating farm management best practices and expanding private sector input and extension models through training, facilitation, and other business development support. In close collaboration with private farms and enterprises, business associations, and key government agencies, SQIL improves markets for the local dairy and beef sector and farm-to-fork domestic and international trade.

The project expands market access by strengthening food safety and quality and sanitary and phytosanitary industry standards; improving post-harvest handling and storage through private investment; fostering more productive business management practices; expanding access to the financial services and building capacity of the public officials to inform food safety policy development.

Through the life of the project, SQIL will attract over 55,000 participants from the beef and dairy value chain sector resulting in nearly $140 million of gross sales for participating farms and businesses
