Expanding trade of Cambodian-grown horticultural products

USDA Food for Progress Cambodia HortSafe
2024 – 2029

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food for Progress Cambodia HortSafe project is expanding trade of Cambodian-grown horticultural products domestically and internationally through improvements to Cambodia’s food safety control system. HortSafe is increasing food safety compliance by developing science and risk-based technical regulations and standards, finalizing Cambodia’s national Food Safety Policy, and supporting the implementation of risk-based inspections. Through a national laboratory development strategy and technical support, HortSafe is supporting the developing a network of accredited food safety laboratories that can meet current demand for testing services. HortSafe is establishing a $1.4 million safe food investment grant facility to catalyze investment for improved post-harvest handling, processing, cold chain, and compliance to food safety standards. The project will also increase food safety awareness and compliance within the tourism industry, a key market for Cambodian horticultural producers.
